Ethnography is just one of them. The initial goal of the direction "Ethnography of Modernity" is to analyze the changes in the city that occurred after the Second World War. Very popular at this stage is the problem of overcoming the differences between the city and the village. Over time, ethnographic issues are enriched by studying the role of the city in the formation of our national culture. Recently, the urban culture of the Bulgarian has been at the center of research interest. The presented study continued the searches in the already outlined direction, focusing its attention on several significant institutions of traditional (churches) and new types (chitalishte, theater, compatriot organization, party, public movement) for Bulgarian conditions in view of their role in the formation of Bulgarian culture of the urban type. The activities of these institutions are traced in development through results in the field of cult architecture and its place in the urban environment, new forms of civil society and festivities.
