The Ustovo manuscript comprises two main sections. The first spans folios 1a to 21b, whilst the second spans folios 1a to 24a. The pagination is of later date and is marked in black pencil in the bottom left-hand corner of the folios. There is no title or title page at the beginning of either section. The texts are written in Greek script in a local Rhodopean dialect, whilst features of other Bulgarian dialects are also evident, mainly from the south-western reaches of the Bulgarian linguistic area, as well as vocabulary characteristic of Church Slavonic. It is written in black ink, which has faded in places. In the second part, there are additions to the text in smaller script, some in red ink. Some leaves are damaged, with torn edges, which prevents the text from being read in its entirety.
