The Bulgarian Dialectal Culinary Dictionary presents the rich and archaic layer of folk vocabulary associated with the culinary culture of the Bulgarians as part of their national identity. It includes dialectal terms – names of foods and drinks and the methods used to prepare them – recorded in archival and published sources from the late 19th century to the present day. It has a broad geographical scope – it encompasses the lexical richness of the dialects spoken across the entire historical territory of Bulgaria, whilst also reflecting, for the first time, the dialects of the Bulgarian diasporas in Banat and Bessarabia (in parts of Ukraine and Moldova).
