Prof. DSc Emmanuel S. Moutafov was born in Sofia in 1968. He received his PhD in Pre-Modern and Contemporary Global History in 2002 (IBSCT-BAS). He was habilitated at the Institute of Art Studies (IAS) in 2009 in the field of Medieval and National Revival Art; he was elected Professor (2019) and Doctor of Science in Theory and History of Art (2022). He is a Byzantinist, epigrapher and art historian at IAS-BAS where he has worked as a full-time researcher since 1999. He was its Scientific Secretary (2013-2014) and Director (2014-2022).

Since 2009, he has been a member of the General Assembly of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences where he served as Vice-Chairman of the Eight GA of BAS. He has over 150 scientific publications, including seven monographs. His texts have been published by such publishers as Cambridge University Press, Brill,  Brepols, etc. He has led projects funded by foundations as “A. Onassis (1) and John Paul Getty (1), by the European Commission (1), the Bulgarian National Science Fund (2), etc. Since 2016, he has been a delegate of BAS to the Union Académique Internationale.

Since 2018, he has been the Research and Development Coordinator of the ‘Heritage BG’ Centre of Excellence. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Commission for Byzantine Epigraphy of the International Association of Byzantine Studies. In the same year, he was awarded the Golden Century – Star Award of the Ministry of Culture for significant contribution to the development of Bulgarian art and culture.

The General Assembly of BAS elected Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov as Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on 20 January 2025.
 

Krassimir T. Atanassov was born on 23 March 1954. He studied in Faculty of Mathematics in Sofia University and defended dissertations for PhD in 1986, Doctor of Technical (Computer) Science in 1997 and Doctor of Mathematical Sciences in 2000. Since 1998 he is a Full Professor in the Department of Bioinformatics and Mathematical Modelling of Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, since 2012 – a Corresponding Member, and since 2021 – an Academician of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, since 2013 – Fellow of IFSA, since 2024 – Fellow of IEEE.

His research interests are in the areas of fuzzy sets (he introduced the object of "intuitionistic fuzzy set" and investigated its basis properties and some of its applications), Petri nets (he introduced the object of "generalized net" and investigated its basic properties, as well as some of its applications in artificial intelligence, systems theory, medicine, economics, and others) and number theory. He has more than 800 papers in journals, more than 300 conference reports and 39 monographs. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of more than 20 international journals and Editor-in-Chief of 5 of them.

Vladimir Zarev was born in 1947 in Sofia. He graduated with a degree in Bulgarian Philology from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” Since 1972, he has worked at *Sovremennik*, a leading magazine for Bulgarian and world literature, and has served as its editor-in-chief since 1988.

Vladimir Zarev is the recipient of the Ivan Vazov and Elin Pelin National Literary Awards. In 2017, he was also awarded the St. Paisii Hilendarski State Prize, and in 2019, he received the Order of Stara Planina, First Class, from the president for his exceptional contributions to the fields of culture and the arts. Since 2021, Zarev has been a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 2022, he was awarded the Peroto Prize for his overall contribution to the Bulgarian literary context.
