"Prof. Marin Drinov" Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Publishing House Scholarly Monographs and Proceedings Publication Standards
An electronic copy of the final version of the work should be submitted on CD or USB flash drive along with the printed copy. For the entire text, footnotes and bibliography included, the recommended file extensions are the following: .doc, .docx, or .rtf. Word files should be free of any tab stops or spacing.
The manuscript should be accompanied by two reviews written by habilitated scholars with the same research background; the reviewers are nominated by the Scientific Council, which is duly confirmed in the minutes of Scientific Council of the Autonomous Scientific Units, to which the manuscript has been submitted for publication. Should the authors be academicians or corresponding members, the requirement is for the nomination to be approved by the respective department of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members.
The text should be organized in accordance with the academic standards for the publication of monographs or proceedings and should therefore include:
a foreign language abstract;
a translation of the author’s name and the title into the respective language;
a back-cover synopsis;
a brief scholarly biography of the author and a portrait photograph (for proceedings —research team data).
Bibliographic references should be formatted consistently throughout the manuscript according to a universal bibliography template of the author’s or editor’s choice.
Manuscripts containing texts in Old Bulgarian, Greek, and other rare languages, as well as dialectal forms, should be typeset in standard fonts, and discussed with a graphic designer. If the use of rare fonts is unavoidable, these should be submitted to the Publishing House along with the manuscript.
Additional requirements regarding proceedings:
papers should meet all the requirements set out by the editor (the editorial board): abstract, keywords, transliterations of bibliographic entries, affiliations, etc.;
The manuscript should be accompanied by a copy of the author requirements set out by the editor (the editorial board);
The editor (or a member of the editorial board) should be responsible for resolving all issues arising from the manuscript editing and pre-print stages; i.e. the editor does not work with each individual paper author;
After the typesetting stage is finalized, all the corrections made by the editor, the authors, and the volume editor should be entered in the printed proofreading copy, not in the PDF file.
The Publishing House does not accept manuscripts whose illustrative material is embedded in a .doc/.docx/.rtf file.
The illustrative material should be supplied as separate files meeting the following requirements:
For the photos: files of the JPEG, TIFF, or GIF format may be saved individually or compressed into a single .zip (at 180 dpi, the long side of the photo should be at least 20 cm, or each individual photo should be over 8 megapixels, respectively; if in a .jpeg format, the photo should be larger than 200 KB);
For further illustrative material: files of the .eps format may be saved individually or compressed into a .zip file; tables should be embedded in their final form as .doc/.docx/.rtf files at their required in-text citation; graphs/charts should be embedded as .doc and .xls formats at their required in-text citations when the Publisher starts work on these; maps, diagrams, and charts/graphs should be submitted as separate files in .eps, .ai, or .cdr formats, with CMYK and text converted to curves.
The author should submit a Word file containing a list of all illustrations (diagrams, maps, photographs, charts, etc.) along with the corresponding captions, and should specify their in-text citation in the manuscript. The numbering of the illustrations in the list should correspond to the numbering of the illustration files themselves.
The text included in the figures, maps, etc., should be in the same language as the one in which the book is to be published.
The author should proofread a hard copy of the manuscript by a deadline consistent with the book’s publication schedule; by signing the publication form, the author consents to the book’s printing.
The title of the work is considered provisional and may be changed upon the editor’s or the publisher’s suggestion, after the author’s consent has been obtained.
The author submits their front cover artwork concept or illustration to the editor and the in-house designer and participates in the discussion of the final artwork. The cover design is approved for printing by the publishing house’s editor-in-chief.
