The collection “Statues of Thought” is a tribute to the scientific work of the great semiotician and literary critic Prof. Ivan Mladenov on the occasion of his 60th anniversary. He is the author of significant works in the field of pragmatism, semiotics, literary theory and the philosophy of Charles S. Peirce. His book Conceptualizing Metaphors. On Charles Peirce’s Marginalia was published by the prestigious Routledge publishing house (2006, 2014). In 2012, it was translated and printed in Tokyo, making Prof. Mladenov the first Bulgarian scholar in the humanities with a book published in Japan. He is a visiting researcher at the Peirce Edition Project in Indianapolis and Bloomington, USA, and has twice won a Fulbright scholarship. The collection includes works by more than 30 prominent scholars from the USA, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, France, Brazil, Japan, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, Hungary and Bulgaria. Ivan Mladenov has published extensively abroad on pragmatism, semiotics and metaphor theory, and in Bulgaria he has been redrawing the boundaries of modern semiotics and the humanities. Winning two Fulbright scholarships for research, Mladenov spent a considerable amount of time with the Peirce Edition Project in Indianapolis and Bloomington. His book Conceptualizing Metaphors. On Charles Peirce's Marginalia appeared in Routledge in 2006 and in 2014. A Japanese version came out in 2012. The present volume contains works by more than 30 outstanding scholars from the USA, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, France, Brazil, Japan, Norway, Finland, Netherlands, Hungary and Bulgaria.
