The Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary aims to explain the origin of the verbal wealth of the Bulgarian language. All words of our language that have been collected to date are included here. Some words have been restored on the basis of proper names. Of the foreign literary words, those that have a wider use are mainly taken; very special scientific and technical terms are not included in principle. They remain for special terminological dictionaries and for the dictionary of foreign words. Of the foreign words in the vernacular, those that are found in the language of the bilingual Bulgarian population and have a very limited use are not taken. According to the goals of the dictionary, the words are arranged in etymological nests - some as headings, and the rest as their derivatives.
