Summary
This collection includes 17 articles and studies by established and young scholars from Sofia University, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and a number of other research centers and museums in the capital and across the country. The choice of title for the conference and, accordingly, for the collection is an expression of respect and homage on the part of the organizers to the first significant work by Prof. Nikolay Genchev, dedicated to Vasil Levski, which was published exactly 50 years ago. The research of the participants can be divided into four thematic areas. The leading one features a number of significant works based mainly on documents relating to the activities, capture, and trial of Vasil Levski and the revolutionary organization, which have been discovered in recent years by Bulgarian and Turkish historians in foreign and domestic archives. With a few exceptions, the materials in the collection are arranged in the order in which they were presented at the conference in order to preserve and convey the atmosphere and spirit of the scientific forum.
