Summary

The main high-mountain zones in Bulgaria are included in the national parks and other protected territories (the Rila, Pirin and the Central Balkan National Parks, the Vitosha Natural Park, the Alibotush Natural Reserve). This makes their study essential – in order to enhance the conservation value of the territories and establish the degree of vulnerability of some threatened species and communities. Recently, many new data have been obtained in the studies of the national parks aiming to establish their management plans.
