Summary

The book is the first part of a scientific trilogy dedicated to the most remarkable aspects of ancient Greek civilization. It is an attempt at a modern reading of some topics and issues from ancient antiquity, respectively from Hellenic civilization, in a broader Balkan context and especially in the dynamics of relations with its Balkan neighbors – the Thracians and other Paleo-Balkan tribes. With the name Hellenics (“On Greek things/deeds”), ancient authors often titled their works dedicated to Hellenic antiquities. The title itself suggests that the effort is aimed at moving away from the formal chronological approach to ancient Hellenic history, towards the problematization and systematization of modern scientific achievements in the interdisciplinary interpretation of this vast and vast material. The modern scientific-essayistic approach has been introduced, which seeks above all the discussion discourse regarding the most current aspects of the politics and culture of Ancient Greece. The emphasis is placed on the reading of ancient sources and their modern understanding/interpretation. The integration of the modern Bulgarian reader into the contemporary European spiritual context goes through the recognition and perception of the achievements of ancient thinking and culture-behavior and their integration into his own cultural model. The book, we hope, will arouse the interest of both broad academic circles, students and teachers of ancient history and culture, cultural studies, political science and philosophy, journalism, arts, as well as all readers with profound interests in this area of historical knowledge and the latest achievements of modern science of antiquity.
