Summary

The book presents the results of a survey conducted among secondary school teachers, students, faculty members, and researchers at universities and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences regarding the state of education and science in Bulgaria. Four specialized questionnaires were used to collect and process the necessary primary data. The main aspects of the survey focus on analyzing: access to education and science; the quality of educational and scientific activities; the alignment of students’ educational preparation for scientific work and with labor market requirements; the alignment of scientific research outcomes with the needs of the economy; the regulatory, institutional, and financial security of the education and science systems. The report presents an assessment of the current state, recent changes, and the future of secondary and higher education and science in the country, prepared by the authors in conjunction with the summary assessments provided by teachers, students, and scientists. These assessments pertain to both the overall state and specific key aspects of educational and scientific activities. The views of the respondents regarding the main challenges facing education and science in the country and the ways to overcome them are outlined. The authors’ summaries and opinions on this matter are presented.
