Summary

Dimitar Mihalchev is one of the leading figures in our academic, cultural, and public life. This volume presents a selection of his correspondence with Dr. Krustyo Krastov, Prof. Ivan Shishmanov, and others, exchanged during his five-year specialization in Germany (1905–1910). It is unique as a historical source for the development of our eminent philosopher, who was the intellectual discovery of the “Misul” circle, just as Yavorov was its artistic discovery. Although the letters mainly reflect his early formative years, they truly outline his cultural presence, which even the forced oblivion after 1953 could not destroy.

• Anani Stoinev: Anani Stoynev graduated in philosophy at Sofia University in 1976. She specializes in Warsaw and Kiev. He has been working at the Institute of Philosophy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 1977. Since 1992 he has been the head of the History of Philosophy Section and editor-in-chief of the Philosophical Alternatives magazine. He defended his dissertations: "Elements of the religious-mythological complexes of Proto-Bulgarians and Slavs", "St. Ivan Rilski, the official Christianity and Bogomilism". He is the author of "The Worldview of the Proto-Bulgarians", "Bulgarian Slavs. Mythology and Religion", "Philosophical-Historical Reflections".
