Prof. Morteza Motahhari (1920-1979) was an Iranian scholar, cleric, teacher, and politician, also known as the martyr teacher. He was born in Fariman, near Mashhad, into a family of clerics. At the age of 12, he went to a religious school in Mashhad, where he began to study the basic principles of Islamic sciences. After six years there, he left to continue his education at the religious school in Qom. During his stay in that city in the 1950s, he met and studied under figures such as Ayatollah Boroujerdi, Imam Khomeini, and Seyyed.
