Summary

Аbout The Author

Vera Kirkova
Vera KirkovaVera Kirkova has a PhD in philology and is a long-standing professor at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at Sofia's University "St. Kliment Ohridski", where she teaches some of the key theoretical linguistics and cultural studies courses, as well as practical translation courses in the Bachelor's degree in "Portuguese philology" and the Master's degree in "Applied Linguistics". She has had long-term specializations at the University of Lisbon and the University of the Azores (Portugal) and short-term ones at the Universities of São Paulo (Brazil) and Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Born in Sofia and raised in Budapest, Vera Kirkova has been interested in foreign languages and cultures from her early youth. She graduated with honors from two elite language schools in Sofia (one being with Spanish and the other one with Russian) and then graduated from two masters (one in "Portuguese Philology" and the second one in "Journalism"), once again with honors, at Sofia's University, "St.Kliment Ohridski". Shortly after, she found her vocation in translating novels and writing articles centered on philological themes, essentially concerning the Portuguese language, the way it has been used and the way it has evolved. As of right now, she has translated more than 40 titles by authors such as José Saramago, Paulo Coelho, Mário de Sá-Carneiro, Fernando Pessoa, José Manuel Mendes, Batista-Bastos, Natália Correia, Mário Zambujal, Graciliano Ramos, Machado de Assis, Márcia Denser, Otto Lara Rezende, Raduan Nassar, Rachel de Queiroz and many more. She has received numerous awards for her socio-cultural and translation work and has recently published her thesis titled "About the Naked Brazilian Indian".
