The first part of the volume includes Slavic Balkan literatures, and the second - Albanian, Greek, Romanian and Turkish literature. Balkan literatures, although each with its own specificity, not only do not run away from European trends, but, on the contrary, most often consider it their pride to be able to create texts in the spirit of European models. It is no coincidence that the trends of romanticism, realism, surrealism, avant-garde, psychological realism, postmodernism are detectable in all Balkan literatures in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the context of close, inside knowledge of neighboring literatures, in conditions of searching for models in Western Europe, the processes of translation reception of Balkan literatures began to develop. Initially, the place of translation was mainly in the periodical press; this applies to the entire translation process, not only to the reception of Balkan literatures. Only after the First World War did the translated book begin to establish itself as a leading form in interliterary communication. Translations from Balkan literatures retain their informative flavor and their fragmentary nature in the reception processes. What is common to translations from Balkan literatures in Bulgaria is that it became possible to think about more voluminous critical editions of classics or of contemporary significant authors only in the years after the Second World War, when this trend was promoted as state policy through state publishing, which became the only existing form. Many specialists in this field participated in the work on the essays on the reception of Balkan literatures in Bulgaria in the 19th and 20th centuries. The selection includes authors from Balkan Slavic and non-Slavic literatures who occupy a significant place in their literature and are represented in translation with at least one book in Bulgarian.
