The monograph Geography of Bulgaria is a fundamental scientific work of national importance. It defines, argues, and defends the Bulgarian national space and identity or, as the founder of geographical science in Bulgaria, Acad. Anastas Ishirkov defines it, "the Bulgarian territory." In a certain sense, the monograph "Geography of Bulgaria" can also be viewed as an element of national security.
The monograph includes scientific knowledge from a wide range of fields in the sciences of the Earth and society—geography, geophysics, seismology, geology, geodesy, oceanology, soil science, ecology, zoology, botany, demography, and economics. In the course of its development, the monograph Geography of Bulgaria evolved into a real platform for intensive cooperation with other institutes at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Bulgarian Academy of Agriculture, universities, administrative and business organizations in Bulgaria.
