Prof. Stefana Stoykova is a prominent Bulgarian folklorist, researcher of Bulgarian folklore. Long-term deputy director of the Institute of Folklore at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Verbal Folklore Section and lecturer at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”. She is the winner of the Johann Gottfried Herder International Prize (1983). She is the author of the books: “Bulgarian Folk Riddles” (Monograph, 1961), “Bulgarian Folk Riddles” (1970, 2nd ed. 1984, 3rd ed. 2011), “Bulgarian Heroic Epic” (1971, co-authored with R. Angelova , L. Bogdanova, Tsv. Romanska and E. Stoin), “Bulgarian Folk Poetry and Prose. Vol. 3. Haidushki and historical songs ”(1981),“ Bulgarian folk ballads and songs with mythical and legendary motives ”. Parts 1-2 (1993–1994, co-authored with L. Bogdanova, St. Boyadzhieva, N. Kaufman, K. Mihailova, L. Parpulova, St. Petkova), “Bulgarian Haidushki and Revolutionary Song Folklore” (2001, in co-authorship with L. Bogdanova and R. Ivanova), “Bulgarian proverbs and sayings” (2007) and others.
