Corresponding member Prof. Vanio Mitev, DSc in Biology, has written over 200 scientific papers whose impact factor is above 380; they have been cited over 2100 times. He has been awarded prestigious Bulgarian and international prizes for notable scientific achievements. Prof. Mitev was appointed head of the Faculty of Medicine Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in Sofia in 1999. He was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1999 until 2003. In 2006 he became the director of the Molecular Medicine Centre. Prof. Mitev was appointed rector of the Medical University in Sofia in 2008. He was elected chair of the Bulgarian Universities Rectors’ Council in 2012.
