The collection CENTRAL BALKAN MOUNTAIN (Districts of Gabrovo, Sevlievo, Tryavna and Dryanovo) is the 11th volume of the BAS series Ethnographic, Folklore and Language Studies of Bulgaria. It presents the specifics of Bulgarian traditional folk culture in a region occupying a central place in the cultural land of the Bulgarians. Its population is not only a bearer of the original features of folk culture and has preserved its identity in conditions of several centuries of severe social and civilizational oppression, but has also been among the forefront in the revival, renewal and modernization processes of Bulgarian society, in social movements and struggles for liberation, for political independence and prosperity.
