"The Revolutionary Folk Song of Macedonia" is a fundamental study which, for the first time in our folklore literature, reveals in a consistent and detailed manner the living process of the creation of revolutionary folk songs in a vast musical-folklore region over a period of about 30 years. The author traces the creation of the songs by following the chronological course of revolutionary events. The book outlines the contributions and merits of some revolutionary figures celebrated in the songs. In this case, the main criterion for selection is not private opinion, regardless of whose it is, but the judgment of the people themselves. This is most evident in the songs that immortalized the image and controversial nature of Yane Sandanski, because there are many more songs about him (with the exception of the songs about Goce Delchev) than about anyone else who left a mark on the revolutionary movement.
