This work aims, as far as possible, to provide such a summary. The available information has been synthesized as fully as possible in the presentation of the individual species, and the summaries concerning the entire fauna include only some traditional aspects for this type of monograph—historical development and patterns in the formation of the fauna, contemporary species composition, zoogeographical features, territorial differentiation in light of the spatial heterogeneity of ecological conditions—relief, geographical location, climate, vegetation).
