Summary

The study outlines the sociocultural characteristics of kinship as placed in a field of unity and interaction between the ties in the kinship system and, above all, between the patrilineal institution and the other kinship institutions. The parameters of this interaction are different and affect each of the possible manifestations of kinship (by matchmaking, ritual and spiritual kinship, etc.), but all of them in their entirety have a key role in maintaining individual and community identity in pre-industrial culture. Moreover, as a system of roles and manifestations, kinship in Bulgarian traditional society has the meaning of a capital characteristic and social investment, which are largely transferred and continue to live in the modern era and in contemporary times.
